“I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to work in a unique environment with wonderful and community.”

 Sonia Sommer

My name is Sonia Sommer, I was born in Ecuador and have lived in Canada for most of my life. I speak Spanish and love teaching children my home language. I live in the city with my husband Martin, we both love staying active and traveling. My career began in 1991 working as an Educational Assistant at Regent Park Duke of York. I then moved on to complete the Early Childhood Education Certificate at George Brown College in 1997.   I started working at Gibraltar Point Day Nursery in August 1997 and have loved every moment. I like to refer to the Gibraltar as my home away from home.  I’ve always been inspired by young children. I feel extremely fortunate to work in an environment where everyone is valued. My many years with Gibraltar have given me the opportunity to establish wonderful relationships with families and the community. For me, every day here at Gibraltar is a day filled with exciting learning experiences. I’m thankful to our families for allowing me to be a part of their children’s learning experience.

"Hello! I'm Jessica Tingle and I am so excited to be a part of the Gibraltar Day Point Nursery team. I grew up in London Ontario where I graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Major in psychology. Before moving to Toronto, I worked at a summer camp for 6 years. For the past 10 years I have worked at Aptus Treatment Centres for adults with Dual Diagnoses. I also have had the opportunity to work as an Educational Assistant with the Toronto District School Board. I speak French, play the guitar, and love making crafts! I believe in a person-centred approach when providing support to students and families. I think the Toronto Island is a magical place to work and I always look forward to its beauty when the seasons change. "
