Nurturing and Inspiring the heart and mind

Our dedicated and Early Childhood Educators aim to provide a healthy learning environment for children to thrive in. Our emphasis is providing a program with the children’s interest in mind.   Daily experiences are developed to promote all areas of the child’s development; Social Emotional development, Cognitive development, Physical/Motor development, and Language.

“I feel so very lucky to work on the Toronto Islands – I think it is the perfect place to teach and learn, especially in the early years. Every day is a new discovery, just as childhood (and adulthood!) should be!” adulthood!) should be!”

Gladys Palacios

Hello, my name is Gladys Palacios, I graduated from the Early Childhood Education Program at George Brown College.  I am originally from Ecuador, South America.  I came to Canada at a very young age and speak fluent Spanish.  I live in the Region of Peel with my husband and 3 wonderful children. Our time together is spent outdoors, taking small trips to discover our beautiful province. We also enjoy swimming, playing hockey and soccer. Prior to attending George Brown College, I worked as a legal assistant for 10 years. I decided to become an Early Childhood Educator because I enjoy helping and observing children learn and develop from infancy, school years and forward.  Being a parent, I understand how important education is and look ahead to working with the staff, and implementing wonderful learning experiences.  I look forward to helping, guiding and encouraging children to reaching their full potential in a play-based curriculum program.

Sonia Sommer

Hello my name is Sonia Sommer and I live in the city with my husband Martin.  I began working as an Educational Assistant at Regent Park Duke of York in 1991, then moved on to complete the George Brown College Early Childhood Education program in 1997.   I've been working a Gibraltar Point Day Nursery since September 1997  I often refer to it as our home away from home.  Nurturing and educating young children is my passion, I have the opportunity to form positive long lasting relationships with families and the community.   Working as an Early Childhood Educator his both inspiring and rewarding.  As an educator and facilitator I’m open to new learning experiences and I’m always amazed at how much I learn from young children.
